More stupid nerdery

Yeah, so Hollow Earth Expedition is pretty cool. System’s fast but flexible and the setting is terrific pulpy playground. I gotta recommend Secrets of the Surface World too. Tons of material from secret societies to weird science, more archetypes and skills and talents and resources and flaws and goddamn just more of everything. I’d say it’s “the rest of the core book” but it’s not like the core book is lacking. Well, it was lacking “beyond human” scale stuff, but that’s covered in the psychic powers, magic rituals, and gadgetry in SotSW.

What I’m saying is: the core book is good on its own, but adding Secrets of the Surface World to it is enough of an improvement that you’d be stupid not to go for both. That’s like 400 pages total, and the rules themselves take up very little space, so most of that is material for you to have fun with.

I am a big stupid nerd

Gonna try out Qin: The Warring States with a little Great Game action from the Weapons of the Gods Companion on the side.

Also, finally checking out Hollow Earth Expedition after staring at the cover for years.

Because I’m not busy enough, obviously.

Good news and annoying news but then more good news!

First up. Volume 5, Atomic Robo and the Deadly Art of Science #1 is available for pre-order. Here’s a five page black and white sample from that issue.

Our fourth trade paperback, Atomic Robo and Other Strangeness, was due to hit stores today. But it appears the business of shipping comics on time is a complicated one. They’ll have it ready for us next week. On the bright side, that gives you more time to order it from heavyink.com or amazon.com or your local retailer.

Oh, and check this teaser for The Fictory’s upcoming animated short, Atomic Robo: Last Stop.

Broken Archives?

I keep getting reports of “some” or “like half” of the images in my various archives not loading. I thank you for the alert, but it’s not actually helpful unless you send me links to the malfunctioning pages in question. ‘Cause everything is working fine for me and everyone I know.

So, if you come across a page that won’t load for you, drop me a line and then we can start to get to the bottom of it. Thanks!

Just skip this if you’re a dumb person

Because the content of this post is not for dumb people.

First: new Ace Combat eeeeeeeeeeeee! I don’t know, maybe that’s old news to the kind of people who like the AC series (i.e. fanatics), but there you go just in case.

Second: Lots of talk about the upcoming Space Marine console game and the 40k MMO.

I’ll be honest. I don’t care how much of an uninspired by-the-numbers WoW clone Dark Millennium may very well turn out to be. I just want to shoot Orks. The bit about Space Marines not being immediately available is interesting. I’m 100% down with playing a squad of Scout Marines or a platoon of Imperial Guard. Space Marines aren’t “all that” (the kids still say “all that”?) anyway. Everyone knows they’re just a stepping stone to becoming a Dreadnought.

For the Emperor*!

[EDIT: Interesting interview on Dark Millennium.]

*until Tau are playable, then fuck yooooou Imperium of Dorks.
